Meet the Founders

Coriander is the brainchild of co-founders Tim McDonald and Jason C. McDonald, two friends (no relation) with a shared passion for empowering nonprofits. Together, they are dedicated to developing software solutions with the functionality and user-friendly interface small to mid-sized nonprofits need to achieve meaningful growth and engagement.

They first met through a networking group for community managers, with randomly assigned one-on-one conversations. As the host often explains, if you get the same person twice, it’s coincidence; three times, it’s fate. Tim and Jason indeed found themselves assigned together three times in a row, and the rest is history.

Tim McDonald

Tim brings over 15 years of expertise in community building, with a decade focused on supporting nonprofits and associations. His extensive background in relationship-building, marketing, and advocacy has given him a deep understanding of the unique challenges nonprofits face and has informed his approach to creating solutions that empower mission-driven organizations.

After being diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer, Tim’s journey led him to pursue a living donor liver transplant and establish his own nonprofit to support others navigating similar paths. While searching for software to help him manage members and foster a community, he identified the need for an accessible, feature-rich platform that small nonprofits could afford and easily use. This experience inspired him to co-found Coriander.

Tim enjoys travelling, meeting interesting people, and taking reflective morning walks with his dog.

Jason C. McDonald

Jason C. McDonald

Jason is an anachronism known for his bow ties and uncanny foresight. A published expert in Python (“Dead Simple Python”, No Starch Press), he draws from nearly fifteen years of experience in software engineering and product ownership across multiple industries and technologies.

As a three-time traumatic brain injury survivor, Jason’s neurodiversity has both enabled and inspired him to build inclusive, highly effective product teams. He’s the creator of the groundbreaking Quantified Tasks project management methodology, and is responsible for building one of the first full-remote internship programs in the software industry.

Outside of work, Jason is a fiction author, musician, and avid cook and gardener.
